ECTS Points
ECTS – European Credit Transfer System – (the so called credit points) – it is a system of clear and comparable marks and academic degrees which makes it possible to recognize diplomas in the European job market. The universal introduction of the system in Europe is one of the postulates of the Bologna Declarations of 19th June 1999. Each course (subject) at Wrocław University of Technology is given points. In accordance with the curriculum (approved by the faculty council), every semester a student has to collect 27-33 points (average 30) when planning their timetable including compulsory courses and extra-curricular courses from a given block and supplementary courses (foreign languages, humanities and management courses, sport). The significance of particular courses may vary for students of various subjects. One should remember that a student cannot choose only foreign languages and sport or have only 15 hours a semester.

Points for courses define:
- Student’s contribution of work necessary to acquire knowledge during particular classes, it encompasses participation in organized classes (lectures, tutorials, projects, labs and seminars) as well asconsultations, preparation for tests, exams, analysing experiments results in labs, preparation of projects, etc.
- Significance of classes in a given course. Similarly the effort necessaryto prepare and write a diploma thesis is taken into account.
At each faculty there is a defined acceptable points’ deficit after a given semester, this is the number of missing points in comparison with the obligatory number of 30 points, if the number of missing points does not exceed the maximum deficit, a student is allowed to start a new semester. If selected courses have low point value and in total they do not give 30 points, the dean may give permission to make up for the missing number of points in the following semester.
IMPORTANT!
- The number of points is not a kind of assessment. Both a student who received excellent grades and the one who hardly passed receive the same number of points (grades, however, will be taken into account in the calculation of the average grade of the whole course of studies).
- Points are granted on the condition that a student has passed a given course and has met all the requirements connected with it (e.g., passing the final exam at the end of a course). A student who has not met all the requirements does not receive these points at all.
- Point value of a given course is always expressed by an integral number.
