1. Where will I stay and how much does it cost?

An e-mail which confirms your admission will also include the most necessary information about the beginning of the study. We offer our students the accommodation in dormitories. The only thing to have a reservation is to reply the e-mail with the exact date of your arrival.

The cost of a room in a dormitory ranges from 600 PLN/ 120 EUR per month.

2. How can I insure during my study in Poland?

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is the only document which guarantees a free medical care in the EU. The EHIC can be used to cover any necessary medical treatment due to either an accident or illness within the European Economic Area (EEA). The EHIC entitles the holder to state-provided medical treatment within the country they are visiting and the service provided will be the same as received by a person covered by the country’s ‘insured’ medical scheme.

Student should apply for this insurance card before they came to Poland. The application procedure is simple but it must be done in the health care units in the student’s country of origin. If you are not sure where the EHIC is provided, please contact with your university’s international office.

Students come from non-European Countries usually have private insurance, which is required for the visa application. Such insurance covers only accidents so you will have to pay for a general practitioner’s consultation. For general medical care insurance you have to apply in the NFZ department (National Health Fund – in Polish ‘Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia’) which is located in Wrocław at Dawida Street 2. It costs about 38 PLN per month and guarantees a free medical care. For the application procedure you need an application form, a copy of your passport, a copy of student’s ID and a confirmation from the University (given by the International Office) that you are a student.

3. What do I have to do to receive residence permit?

EU and non-EU students which would like to study in Poland for longer than three months should legalize their stay by obtaining a temporary residence permit after their arrival. You can apply for it in the Lower Silesian Governor’s Office (in Polish ‘Urząd Wojewódzki’ pl. Powstańców Warszawy 1, 50-951 Wrocław rooms 0139, 0141, 0142, 0145, 0147). To apply for residence card you will need:

• application form (from the Governor’s Office),
• confirmation that you are a student of Wroclaw University of Technology and that you have means for living or that you receive a scholarship from your home institution (provided by the International Office or the Admission Office),
• confirmation of the registration in the dormitory (provided by the administrator of the dormitory). Students who rent a flat are obliged to bring a copy of the lease agreement and a copy of the landlord’s ID,
• copy of your ID or passport,
• 2 colour photographs (students from EU) and 5 colour photographs (non-EU students),
• copy of valid medical insurance

Additionally, non-EU students need to bring a copy of their birth certificate translated by the sworn translator, a certificate confirming registration duty and a letter of invitation form the host institution confirming the student status.

The procedure takes around 2 months. The card is valid for 2 years. The handling fee is required 30 PLN (EU citizens), 350 PLN (non-EU citizens). More information at the website: www.duw.pl
